Short Story

Havana is a developing suburb of Windhoek, currently ‘under construction’, with a lot of people building their houses and other buildings for the community. I want to sell building materials (open from 12h to 24h), for people not to go far to buy their materials, and for them to be able to buy the materials after they come from work, so they can start with their buildings. This is helping the community by enabling them to build their houses, and it also provides employment within the community.
Each year I will be donating material to the Red Cross or the Councilor’s office, so that they help people whose shacks have burnt down due to fire. I am committed give enough materials for 10-15 houses, each year.

About

I am Immanuel Shilikunye, 28 years old Namibian from Omusati region near Ruacana. After completing my grade 12, I came to Windhoek to further my studies at Lingua College in Office Administration (bookkeeping and computer skills). I searched for work, but remained unemployed. That is why I want to take my future into my own hands. For the past eight years, I volunteered at Red Cross Namibia and in 2016, I started volunteering at the Food Bank, where I also received training. Through my volunteer work, I started going into the community and learned a lot about how some people are facing real hunger and other challenges. This is also where my passion to give back to the community came from, because I know many people that actually sleep under the bridge and in shelters made out of waste materials, as they face difficulties to construct their own houses.

I am committed give enough materials for 10-15 houses, each year.   I already have land in Havana to build my warehouse on, and I am currently busy applying for my license and getting all other legal requirements in place to open my business.   Equipments needed are: 1) Materials to build a warehouse, and 2) Materials to be sold: zinc, poles, cement, doors, nails, tools.   Due to the fact that I only did volunteering after my completion of my tertiary, I have no start-up capital.   However, I have already gained experiences in construction work: Ceiling and partition works learned through helping my uncle.

3 reviews for Eddy’s Building Material & Warehouse

  1. Rated 5 out of 5

I had the privilige of working with Eddy in developing and uploading his campaign on NamStarter, and I am deeply impressed by his committment to volunteering and serving his community. I also think that offering much needed building materials for Havana residents after working hours is a great business idea that will definitely make life easier for those residents who are in the process of building or upgrading their houses in and around Havana.
